FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS

If my family isn’t Catholic, should we consider St. Athanasius School?

St. Athanasius welcomes all children, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender identity, national origin, and socioeconomic status. Catholic faith is the bedrock of our parish and school, infusing our curriculum and community. Our emphasis on kindness, respect, compassion, anti-bullying and social justice, along with our strong academic program, draws all families to our community and school.

What if my child has special needs?

We strive to meet the needs of all learners. With resource teachers on staff, in addition to a school counselor, we lead a responsive, well-developed program. Our resource faculty work with students within the classroom, one-on-one, and in small groups outside of the classroom. Staff collaborate with teachers, public school personnel, counselors, tutors, and parents to coordinate plans to maximize student success. If your student has an IEP or 504, our resource teachers will set up a meeting with the student and parent to determine if the student can be accommodated based on our resource program capacity and our ability to properly serve the student.

As a St. A’s parent, what ways can I get involved?

Volunteering is a cornerstone of our school. We welcome any talent and gift of time, and encourage parents to find their favorite ways to participate and connect with one another. Our Parent School Organization (PSO) holds a variety of opportunities and commitment levels. Other parent-led groups, such as our School Board, Development Committee and Booster Club, lend guidance and support to our parish and community fundraisers, as well as to our Redhawks athletic program.

What about test scores?

St. Athanasius School consistently scores well above both the national and Archdiocesan averages on standardized tests. Our class averages on standardized tests have been consistently in the top 10% of the nation. A large percentage of students enter honors courses in high school and sustain honor roll standing through their high school years.

When do students begin wearing uniforms?

Our uniforms are a source of pride. Beginning in first grade, students wear the complete uniform. Grades 1-6: white polo shirt with school logo and navy pants, or Macbeth plaid jumpers/skirts. Grades 7-8: navy polo shirt with school logo and khaki pants, or Macbeth plaid skirt. Non-uniform days and spirit-wear days occur each month.
