2020 Future City Regionals

St. Athanasius Future City Team competed at Regionals on Saturday, which took place at UIC-Chicago. They were given the "High Rise Award" for their innovative design of high rises. One teammate joined them via FaceTime from Australia. The team presented well, and did a great job representing our school.

Future City is a program where students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future through project-based work. It begins with the question: "How can we make the world a better place?"

Students submit several components: a virtual city design via SimCity software; a 1,500-word essay; a scale model made from recycled materials; and a project plan. They present to judges at Regionals, and select teams continue to Finals in Washington, DC in February.

We are proud of our FutureCity student team, led by teachers Mrs. Mary Vitaioli and Mrs. Barbara Bush.
